In order to climb Everest, a mountain climber should be physically fit, got a good knowledge and experience about mountain snowstorms and avalanches and should protect him/herself against hypothermia.
Dusty Boyd is a qualified climber who knows all about Everest dangers. Dusty Boyd has been to the mountain nine times, and is planning to go back for a 10th.
Dusty Boyd is 55 and he lives in Hawaii Island. He is going to Nepal this month. He will be accompanied by a porter and a 60-year-old Sherpa. Dusty Boyd is planning to summit Everest once again.
After summiting Everest in 2016, he thought he would never go back but once again he is going to climb Everest with a 60-year-old Sherpa. Dusty Boyd is going to climb Everest in a short time.
Sherpas are experts at climbing the mountain of Himalayas. They are an ethnicity in Nepal and got impressive mountaineering skills. Basecamp of Everest was closed until April 30 due to COVID-19 pandemic, making Everest unusually empty for the season of summiting.
Dusty Boyd and Dawa Sherpa in order to reach themselves to the Everest Basecamp will take a 72-mile walk out of the traditional route. They choose the longer walk-in because they believe that this trail will allow them to acclimatize better than the Lukla route.
According to Dusty Boyd, after reaching base camp, they will try to climb the mountain in around 48 hours. Thus, overall, the ascend will take 14 to 16 days while, most expeditions last almost two months.
Dusty Boyd is interested in the history of Everest and it’s a source of motivation for him.
Dusty Boyd believes that you should not spend too much time on Everest, because it can kill you.
Dusty Boyd said if he climbs successfully Everest this time, he will spend some time in Nepal.
Considering the fact that the gyms are closed due to COVID-19 and the Gov. David Ige order to stay at home, Dusty Boyd could not do his traditional Everest preparation training.
Dusty Boyd runs the Fujihara Store down south that is the oldest store in Hawaii Island. After long hours of work, he gets on the bike for a couple of hours, and then he runs down to Honaunau. He is training very hard and he believes that he is in ideal physical situation and he does the training mostly for mental preparation.
According to Dusty Boyd, you should avoid over-training for your Everest ascend. He does 300 sit-ups and 300 push-ups each day. He said, being a little overweight in your Everest expedition is a nice idea because at the higher altitudes you cannot have food and drink water easily. It’s OK to accumulate some fat in your body.
In 2019, 11 people lost their lives on Mt. Everest.
Dusty Boyd is the father of four and he knows it’s risky to climb Everest but he wants to teach his children that sometimes it’s OK to take risks in life.
Everest was closed, so Dusty Boyd has to take special trails that haven’t been taken in a long time. It’s a real challenge for Dusty Boyd.
As a longtime mountaineer, of course the challenge will be worth.
