July 27, 2020Etiquette for mountain bikers, hikers & runners just imagine that you are on a single-track trail then somebody suddenly comes near you from the other side. In this situations who should make way.
Well, most of the times, the person who is less aggressive or more considerate gives the way to the other person but some of the mountain climbing groups such as Colorado mountain club has tried to provide rules of trail behavior. There are some according to Colorado mountain club and Taymaz Adventure Iran, the mountain bikers should yield to foot traffic. The cyclist should give way to hikers.
In Iran this rule simply doesn’t work. In Iran, the hiker should stop and give way to the bikers, considering the fact that, bikers will fall if they come to a full stop. You should comply if you don’t want to be injured.
Well, its logic. By doing so you just let the biker out of your way as soon as possible. True or false, the biker has the upper hand and can push you out of the way.
The other option is distance. Anybody who reaches the narrow part of the trail first, should past first. It the hiker is walking on the trail and the bike approaches from behind, the hiker should give way to the biker because the hiker is shower than the follows the hiker.
Simply, it’s a matter of common sense.
The other concern is that most of the times hiker are able to get off the trail one or two steps but bikers don’t have such options. It’s always better for hikers to get out of the way of the bikers, especially regarding the fact that in a trail you will encounter the bikers few times. So, just be considerate and friendly towards bikers. During the pandemic, always wear mask even in outdoors and keep six feet distance. The climber should pull out ear buds once in a while to be aware of your environment. If you are walking a dog in your outdoor activities, keep the dog leashed.
