Azad Kouh is one of the highest peaks at at central Alborz.
Azad Kouh is located at Mazandaran province.
Azad kouh means “Liberty Mountain”.
It is called so by the locals because the mountain is separated from the mountains around and it is cone shaped.
The alternative name of Azad kouh is the “ Broken-neck prince”.
You can climb Azad kouh from four routes.
The nearest route is Kalak.
Azad kouh is attached to other mountains only through southern edge.

Other three routes to climb Azad kouh are included of Nessen village, Eastern edge route, Sootak edge & Varangeh River.
From the road to foot of Azad kouh there is eleven kilometers.
On the route, you have a big river and many natural springs on the way.

After one hour walk from Kalak, you will reach to a place where two rivers cross. The river on the right is more water filled. And the valley where the river lies is the route to the peak.
After four hours walk you will reach to a natural spring.
From the spring to the top, you have two hours.
From the place you have breakfast (river cross) to the top is five hours walk.
From top to the Kalak it is four hours walk (descending).
At summer time, Azad Kouh is very crowded.
In summer there is a possibility of hit thinning.
From Azad Kouh you have a view of Mt. Damavand.
At summer time, you can climb Azad Kouh in one day conditioned that, you are in good physical condition.
