Strictly avoid taking photos from barracks, governmental buildings (specifically prisons) and nuclear sites.

What if you see a social problem at the streets of Tehran such as drug addicts, poverty, etc.? Please don’t take such photos because the government is very sensitive to the attitudes of the tourists. If you do that, you will find yourself in serious trouble.
Don’t shoot photos at the subways with big cameras. It is not totally forbidden to take photos as the subway but it’s better to take photos by cell phone so that you don’t grab attention of others.
At parts of the holy shrines you are not allowed to take photos. If you find a holy shrine very fancy and decided to share the experience with your friends, ask the security first.
Sometimes there are signs of “no camera” or “no photos” in the holy shrines and public places but if you ask the security and they allow you to do so, then take photos happily.
