December 19, 20206 Bad Habits Of Climbers You Should Avoid
Mountain climbing is an activity that many people do to fill their holiday time.
However, many mountain climbers still do bad things when climbing.
Here are the bad things climbers do when climbing mountains:
1. Hike without preparation
Mountain climbing is an outdoor activity that cannot be done carelessly.
It needs preparation, from physical, equipment, to knowledge of the path so that the climb runs smoothly.
But nowadays, there are many climbers who immediately decide to climb the mountain just because of a friend’s invitation or seeing climbing posts on social media.
They then started the climb without proper preparation.
This is certainly risky.
Without adequate preparation, you will not be physically ready to climb, which can cause injury or accidents.
In addition, the risk of getting lost is also greater.
2. Wear a suit that is not suitable for climbing
As a physical activity, of course climbing the mountain also requires a suitable outfit.
A comfortable suit not only helps climbers to move comfortably, but also when facing mountain weather conditions such as hot and cold.
Not a few climbers now ignore the climbing suit.
Many are still wearing clothes that are not suitable for hiking, such as jeans, light jackets, and casual shoes.
Of course, clothes that are not suitable for climbing make climbing even more dangerous.
It also increases the risk of accidents such as hypothermia.
Of course, school shoes are prone to slipping the wearer when passing through the path of the climb which is quite slippery and does not protect the feet from injury.
Another example is, to overcome the cold air in the mountains, of course you need a standard jacket.
A jacket with a thin layer obviously will not be able to protect the body from cold air.
3. Noisy in the tent at night.
Joking with your climbing friends is indeed an exciting activity in climbing.
In addition to being more familiar, climbing may not feel tired if it is interspersed with jokes with friends.
However, joking out loud when camping at night, especially if there are other tents nearby.
That’s because it could be that the climber in another tent is resting.
Of course, being noisy in the tent at night can disturb other climbers who are resting to get rid of fatigue.
Noisy can be due to chatting and laughing out loud, or playing music from your smartphone loudly.
In addition, the loud noise also has the potential to disrupt the life of the animals on the mountain being climbed.
4. Make a campfireMany
climbing basecamp managers prohibit mountain climbers from making bonfires or fireplaces, especially during the dry season.
This is because fireplaces are prone to causing mountains to experience forest and land fires.
However, climbers sometimes remain determined to make bonfires while climbing.
Usually, the reason for the purpose of a campfire was none other than to warm up from the cold mountain air.
Campfires are also dangerous because the embers can be blown by the wind and hit dry shrubs, triggering forest and land fires.
5. Leaving teammatesWhen hiking with a team
ideally team members should walk close together.
There should not be a single person breaking away by walking first or falling behind.
This is so that all team members can survive until basecamp returns.
From several cases of mountain climbing accidents, one of the factors is separation from fellow climbing.
This causes the movement of team members to be unstoppable.
6. Littering and vandalism
This is one of the bad habits that many climbers do.
They throw away trash such as photo props such as paper, plastic food wrappers, scribbling stones, and others.
