At the 14th annual meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee of UNESCO the Dotar of Iran is registered as heritage of mankind.
Dotar is an ancient Persian music instrument that somehow looks like early guitars i.e. it has a bowl , is made of dry wood and got a neck and two strings.
It is believed that one string is representing male element and the second string is representing female element.
Dotar is played in traditional ceremonies, festivals and rituals.
This instrument is mostly played by farmers.
Recently Dotar got attention in international festivals.
According to UNESCO, Dotar is representing the culture, history and lyric of Persia.
