The South face is the easiest route to do. It’s easy to climb Damavand in the summer from south face, it’s not a technical climb. The route is obvious and it is straight forward.
-
On climbing Damavand you may face two problems: the high sulfur fumes near the top of the mountain and high altitude.
-
At summer time there are lots of climbers at the south face and sometimes it is difficult to find a place to erect your tent.
-
If you are about to do the south face, you should go to Polour or Rayneh. Then at the height of 3050 meters there is a masque. The mosque got some facilities and 50 people can stay inside.
-
Then you should make it up till you reach Bargah Sevom (4200 meters). At Damavand you can rent mules to carry your stuff from the masque to Bargah Sevom. It takes 4 hours to reach from the masque to the Bargah Sevom.
-
Bargah Sevom is a shelter and has a capacity of 200 people. Around Bargah Sevom there are places for erecting tents. There are also eco-camps there.
-
Spend one or two nights at Bargah Sevom. Then go up towards the top and on the way on your right side, you will find an ice fall at the height of 5100. Then you will reach to sulfur fumes area.
-
It takes 6 hours from Bargah Sevom to reach the top of Damavand.
-
When reaching to the top of Damavand, don’t forget to celebrate!
