March 28, 2020Northern face of Damavand
You planned for trekking Damavand but you do not know which route is suitable for you. Or maybe you have climbed Damavand from the classic route last year and now you want to try other routes. hope this article helps you with your Damavand trek.
The northern edge of Damavand is located between Do Bee cell glacier and Aroosak-ha glacier.
To climb the northern face of Damavand, you should reach yourself to Nandal village then take the route that crosses among Alimony country side.
From the main road to Nandal there is a dirt road (track). The track sometimes is washed off by flood and driving in it becomes tricky. You should take local drivers to be able to reach yourself to Nandal safely.
Then you will reach the starting point of your Damavand trek.
You should take a deep steep and climb a small hill to reach to a shelter at the altitude of 4000 meters.
It’s recommended to spend the first night at Nandal village because you need one full day to reach yourself to 4000m shelter.
At 4000 meters shelters, you have a nice view at Sar-dagh wide plain.
Tomorrow early in the morning climb the rocky slope then cautiously cross the Do-Bee-Cell glacier margin and reach yourself to the shelter located at the altitude of 5000 meters.
From the 5000 meters shelter you have a deep steep to the top of Damavand.
From 4000m shelter to the top, you need six hours to ascend the mountain and 3 hours for descending.
Western face of Damavand
If you prefer to climb Damavand from less crowded routes, try western route of Damavand.
After Polour, take Laar Dam road. The road is 30 kilometers long until reaching to the parking lot at Vararu. This is where your Damavand trek begins.
Then start walking towards the top until you reach to Simorgh shelter at the altitude of 4150 meters.
Tomorrow, you have a challenging day. From Simorgh shelter you have a long difficult ascend to reach yourself to a sulfur hill at the altitude of 5000 meters. Then take the route on your right side and from the south west route reach yourself to the top.
Western face of Damavand is fun to climb. But be careful on the way back because this route is slippery and stones fall down from above.
