October 27, 2020This time I will share information about mountain climbing, especially for beginners.
Based on personal experience, I will share the mountain climbing experience I did with my seven friends.
My first hike in the mountain, was done in 2018 to be precise in June two years ago.
My 7 friends and I decided to go hiking in celebration of my promotion from second grade high school to third grade.
At that time we agreed to choose Mount Penanggungan as the mountain that we would climb due to various factors ranging from many of my friends who were climbing for the first time, the location is not far from the city of Surabaya, the budget that needed to be brought was also not much (around Rp. 200,000- Rp. 300,000), the height of the mountain which is only 1,653m above sea level, and the terrain that allows for novice climbers to pass.
A week before climbing we prepare various needs so that our climb runs smoothly, starting from a carrier bag as a bag to store climbing items (if none can be replaced with a regular backpack), shoes or mountain sandals, mattresses used for sleeping mats in tents (if not available, you can replace it with mats), sleeping bags (if not available, you can replace them with warm clothes / jackets), cooking utensils (portable stoves, gas / paraffin, nesting), fast food ingredients (instant noodles, rice cake, cakes -cakes, etc.), flashlights (for night hikes), and don’t forget the tent.
For tents, we rent 2 tents with a capacity of 4 people at a price of IDR 35,000 / day.
In addition to preparing logistical needs / goods, we also prepare our physically by jogging for 2 weeks before leaving on a regular basis.
For climbing the penanggungan mountain this time, we agreed to go on a hike for 2 days and 1 night and determine a climbing route through the Tamiajeng route, Trawas.
We also agreed to use bus and elf transportation in order to save energy.
On the day of departure we gathered at the Bungurasih terminal, because we all live in the city of Surabaya, we agreed to leave there.
We departed from Surabaya at 3pm and arrived at around 5pm.
On the way to Mount Penanggungan we drove 2 types of transportation, the first was a bus with a ticket price of IDR 20,000 / person and an elf with a ticket price of IDR 15,000 / person.
Arriving at the foot of the penanggungan mountain, we chose to rest while taking care of registration at the first post.
For registration per person, they are required to pay IDR 10,000 as an entry fee and representatives of the group must leave their KTP.After passing the mahgrib hour we decided to start climbing, before climbing we prayed according to our respective religions and beliefs.
After that we went on a night hike, armed with a flashlight and the knowledge of one of our friends who had climbed Mount Penanggungan before.
From the first post to the second post, the terrain is still not steep and in the form of a path filled with rocks.
Starting from the second post to the last post, namely the fourth post, the road has started to become steep and the road is clay so it has the potential to be slippery and muddy when it rains.
When passing the last post we get a sloping land as a resting place for climbers called the peak of the shadow.
There we arrived at 21.30 WIB, after that we decided to rest and set up a tent, and planned to wake up at 3:00 a.m. to catch the sunrise at the top of the penanggungan mountain called Puncak Pawitra.
When we continued our journey, our belongings died in the tent and rushed up to the top of Pawitra in the hope of seeing the sunrise, but after we woke up at 03.00 WIB at dawn and climbed to the top of Pawitra it turned out that we were too early, as a result waiting a little long to see the sunrise and take a selfie on top.
After seeing the sunrise we returned to the top of the shadow for breakfast and rest again.
At approximately 09.00 WIB we have already cleared our tents and garbage to be brought down.
For our descent trip faster because the trip is accustomed to the terrain and the road is clearly visible because of the sun.
When we got off we went back to rest at the second post to buy snacks, after that we continued our journey and arrived at the first post.
When we were at the first post, we returned to take care of the registration and cleaned up to return to Surabaya.
Around 15.00 WIB we got off using an elf and transited at the local terminal, after that we continued our journey to Surabaya using another elf because no bus came because it was too late.
For the return transport we spent IDR 50,000. Arriving at the Bungurasih terminal, we returned to our homes each using our own motorbikes.
It is my personal experience climbing the penanggungan mountain with friends.
I recommend Mount Penanggungan as a mountain that is suitable for beginners because I think Mount Penanggungan is a miniature of the big mountains on the island of Java.
Hopefully this experience will be useful for friends who want to climb for the first time.
